First Enhanced Version of Standards-Based Interactive Graphics Debuted Chyron, RespondTV, Weather Channel Demonstrate Enhanced TV Services

Chyron Corp., (NYSE: CHY), the world leader in broadcast video graphic systems, and RespondTV, the first provider of real-time end-to-end enhanced TV services, along with Viziworx, will demonstrate an industry first enhanced version of standards-based interactive graphics with The Weather Channel at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) April 10-13. Together these companies provide a unified way to create, encode, display and retrieve real-time on-air graphics and advertising for both traditional and enhanced delivery to viewers.

While watching The Weather Channel’s Your Weather Today demonstration, viewers can interact through any on screen graphics. For example, viewers can click on the city of their choice to obtain the weather forecast in that city or click on the name of a weatherman/woman to view his/her biography. Also available during the two-hour interactive programming demonstration, viewers will see interactive advertisements and sponsorships from Ford Focus. Viewers can interact with traditional thirty-second spots and can also use their remote to click on the “sponsored by” Ford Focus logo within the programming to request a brochure or learn more about the product. This provides Ford with another opportunity to build valuable viewer relationships with potential customers.

“Interactivity is a simple, logical extension that enhances the Weather Channel viewer experience by extending the options available to them,” said, Karen Lennon, Vice President, Business Development New Media, at the Weather Channel. “The integration of these technologies is a win-win for everyone–the Weather Channel, our consumers and our sponsors.”

Chyron has modified iNFiNiT! and Duet/Lyric systems so that dynamically generated Advanced Television Enhancement Forum (ATVEF) standards-based triggers are compatible with the Chyron graphic overlays on The Weather Channel. The ATVEF triggers point to context sensitive, interactive content that can effortlessly be retrieved by the viewer. RespondTV’s management network will provide the real-time back-end infrastructure to serve, host and report on the traffic and responses generated by the interactive Chyron graphics.
