Nogatech First to Add Support for Simultaneous TV
Santa Clara, CA and Kfar Saba, Israel, April 11, 2000- Nogatech, Inc. today
announced the launch of the NT1005 TV enhancement chip. The NT1005 is a
companion chip to the high-performance NT1004. Together, they form the
industry’s first chipset to provide advanced features for PC and TV
integration, including simultaneous viewing of teletext and data streaming
for Vertical Blank Interval (VBI), which enables support for Intercast and
Multicast Internet broadcasting protocols. The NT1005 chip also features an
interface for infra-red remote control.
With the introduction of the NT1005 chip, PC-TV manufacturers can
significantly expand the functionality of PC-TV products based on
Nogatech’s flagship NT1004 chip. The NT1004 chip, which enables video,
audio and data to be streamed across the USB channel to PC set-top boxes,
cable modems and computer displays, has met with remarkable market
acceptance since its launch in November 1999. It has been integrated in
different products spanning the gamut of USB-based PC-TV and digital video
applications.
“The introduction of the NT1005 TV enhancement chip is a direct response to
our customers’ interest in adding functionality to their PC-TV products,”
said Arie Heiman, Ph.D., president and CEO of Nogatech, Inc. “As the
emerging market for Internet and TV convergence products develops, and
consumers become increasingly sophisticated, we are committed to delivering
our customers the innovations they need to stay competitive.”
The NT1005 chip enhances the NT1004 by providing data streaming for VBI,
the standard technique for transmitting digital data such as
closed-captions simultaneously with analog video. Nogatech’s technology
contained in the NT1005 chip enables VBI information to be detected by
PC-TVs so that television, VBI and Internet capabilities can be integrated
in the same product. This means that PC-TV products that utilize the NT1005
chip can receive Intercast and Multicast broadcasts, which are fast
becoming the standard protocols for Internet broadcasting.
The NT1005 chip also includes an infra-red remote control interface. This
enables PC-TV manufacturers to add remote control capabilities to their
PC-TV products, further reinforcing the convergence of TV and Internet.
The NT1005 chip is available immediately from Nogatech.
