At the SkyForum Conference sponsored by the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association, there was optimism about the satellite broadcasting industry’s potential. One
of the hot topics was interactive services. A panel pinpointed certain areas where DBS has the potential to dominate: information services such as weather forecasts, game show participation and T-commerce. Jan Steenkamp, CEO of OpenTV said, “People have a familiarity with and a confidence in their televisions.” He also said that consumers will find interactive services more compelling on TV, due to its audio and video capabilities.
