OpenTV and Lagardere Partner to Produce Interactive Television Services for the U.S.
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. & NEW YORK–June 14, 2000–OpenTV
(Nasdaq:OPTV) (AEX:OPTV), the leading worldwide provider of software
that enables digital interactive television, and Lagardere, the
international media giant and parent company of the world’s largest
publisher of consumer magazines, Hachette Filipacchi Medias, today
announced an agreement to create, develop and market interactive
television (ITV) programs, initially for U.S. broadcast. Content for
these inaugural programs will be derived from Hachette Filipacchi’s
well-known magazine brands Car & Driver and Woman’s Day.
Debut services are expected to be ready for broadcast in the U.S.
by the end of the year and will be developed for a range of OpenTV
distribution platforms, including EchoStar’s DISH Network(TM). In
addition, the two companies will work together to build virtual retail
TV channels inspired by Hachette Filipacchi Magazines’ (HFM) brands
that encompass the popular automotive, cooking and crafts genres. HFM
publishes 25 consumer titles including Premiere and Road & Track and
reaches more than 47 million readers.
