/PRNewswire/ — Maxtor Corp. (Nasdaq: MXTR)
today announced its entry into the consumer electronics market, with its first
offering as an approved storage supplier to WebTV Networks, Inc., a subsidiary
of Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT). Maxtor’s new DiamondMax(TM) 60 hard drive

RCA(R) DirecTV(TM) system.
“Maxtor’s role as a storage solutions provider to WebTV is a great first
step in the consumer electronics arena,” said Ted Deffenbaugh, Maxtor vice
president, consumer electronics. “Because of our unique one to four platter
design, we can provide up to 60 GB of storage for personal video recorders.”
Paul McCabe, senior director of Partner Management at WebTV Networks,
added, “Our goal is to team with market leaders. Maxtor’s reputation and
demonstrated consistency for timely delivery of quality and performance

WebTV integrates digital video recording with satellite programming,
interactive television and Internet features, creating a unified user

“Maxtor intends to be a top contender in the application of hard drives to
interactive and multimedia applications in television and satellite services,”
Deffenbaugh added. “With International Data Corporation projecting hard drive
sales into the set-top box market at over 24 million units by 2004, we see a
very bright future for hard disk drives.”
