Satellite Industry Embraces Wink’s Enhanced Broadcasting

ALAMEDA, Calif., and LAS VEGAS, July 19 /PRNewswire/ — Wink
Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: WINK), America’s leader in enhanced broadcasting
and ‘one-click’ commerce on television, announced today a long list of
activities and product demonstrations taking place at this week’s Satellite
Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) annual convention in Las
Vegas, Nevada. The company’s activities and presence at the SBCA convention
reflect its rapid adoption by the satellite TV industry.

Following a string of announcements related to the satellite TV industry,
Wink Communications’ Enhanced Broadcasting technology and television commerce
system has achieved significant industry acceptance. Recently, the company
announced that its interactive TV product will be available to EchoStar’s DISH
Network customers, that Wink Enhanced Broadcasting will be integrated into the
OpenTV software platform, and that the technology to enable its interactive TV
services will be integrated into DIRECTV System receivers manufactured by
Sony, Philips and Samsung. The company’s success is further underscored by
previous announcements with DIRECTV for distribution of Wink Enhanced
Broadcasting, and with Thomson Consumer Electronics and Hughes Network Systems
to integrate the company’s interactive TV technology into their DIRECTV System
receivers.

“Wink’s end-to-end suite of interactive TV services has been
overwhelmingly accepted by the satellite industry,” said Maggie Wilderotter,
Wink’s president and CEO. “We have signed agreements with both major DBS
players to launch Wink, in addition to more than 80 other significant deals we
have forged with cable MSO’s, broadcast and network partners, advertisers and
suppliers. And now, with the upcoming launch with DIRECTV later this fall,
Wink is positioned to become the largest interactive TV provider in U.S.
history.”

Wink’s enhanced TV feature has been launched and is now available to more
than 200,000 cable households in 25 markets across the United States.
To-date, the company has accomplished distribution deals that represent a
potential delivery of 10 million viewing households.
