Making Room for Enhanced Digital TV
Tuesday, August 22nd, 2000
In order to be successful, enhanced Digital TV application programs must be able to operate on all brands and models of television receivers and set-top boxes. The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) has adopted a DTV-enhanced television standard called DTV Application Software Environment (DASE). DASE makes it appear to programming content and applications that they are running on a common receiver.
DASE will support synchronization of enhanced TV data with audio and video, permitting content to be displayed at the right moment. DASE is being constructed using existing standards for the content types that support it.
There is an effort to harmonize the DASE standard with the ATVEF (Advanced Television Enhancement Forum).
