ICTV Announces Release of Powerful New TV Browser
LOS GATOS, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Oct. 16,
2000 via NewsEdge Corporation -
ICTV, provider of the cable industry’s most
robust solution for delivery of broadband Internet
TV services to digital set-tops, today announced
the release of its upgraded TV Browser, ICTV
version 2.3.1.
The new release, which has been deployed on
ICTV’s production system in Missouri, supports
the most recent versions of essential browser
plug-ins critical to surfing rich media on the
Internet.
Plug-ins are to browsers what applications such
as Word and Excel are to operating systems
such as Windows. The more powerful your
plug-ins are, the more satisfying your surfing
experience is. The more choice in plug-ins, the
more choice in content and services. And to be
able to support all the hot new sites, you must
be able to support all the hot new plug-ins in
their latest version.
Release 2.3.1 clearly demonstrates ICTV’s ability
to support the major plug-ins in their current
version. With an architecture based upon
standard PC processors, Windows and Internet
Explorer 5, ICTV’s technical ability to provide
such plug-in support is unique among TV browser
solutions.
“Although the industry still has some questions
to work through, in the end, it is clear that
MSOs want to deliver the best content to their
customers,” said Michael Collette, senior vice
president of marketing and business
development. “Broadband TV isn’t about
yesterday’s content. It’s about tomorrow’s
content. The tools to create Broadband TV — to
transform the cable industry — are evolving very
rapidly, and ICTV is the only TV browser provider
with a platform that is capable of keeping up
with that pace of change.”
ICTV 2.3.1 will support the following plug-ins:
– Flash4 (v4.0.12)
– Director7 (v7.0.2)
– DirectX 6.1
– RealPlayer 7.0
– QuickTime 4.1.2
– Window Media Player v6.4.7
– VCDROM2.0
