SpotLife and Philips To Offer Personal Video Broadcasting
SpotLife, the first company to bring Personal Video Broadcasting (PVB) to the
mainstream, has signed a strategic license and distribution agreement with Philips
Electronics, one of the world’s largest electronics companies. Under the
agreement, Philips will integrate SpotLife’s Personal Video Broadcasting service
with its PC video cameras for sale this year.
“We are excited to partner with Philips because they are a leading electronics
company that makes first-class PC video cameras,” said SpotLife CEO and
co-founder Amit Goswamy. “This alliance, in conjunction with our combined
product offering, will increase SpotLife’s global membership numbers and reinforce
our leadership position in the Personal Video Broadcasting market.”
In order to benefit from SpotLife’s simple “point, click and broadcast” service, the
user must have a SpotLife-enabled PC video camera. The agreement allows Philips
to continue enhancing the applications suite associated with its widely popular PC
video cameras. The Philips’ PC video camera, integrated with SpotLife’s free
service, automatically allows customers to broadcast live, recorded or still images
on the Internet, where the material can be shared with family and friends. For
example, users can broadcast their children’s birthday parties live so out-of-town
relatives can “be there”, publish a video of items to auction on the Internet or watch
their children at home while they are at work - the possibilities are endless.
Additionally, the recipient does not need a camera to open, view and listen to the
Internet video broadcast.
Geoff Wanless, general manager of Philips PC Camera product group, views this
alliance as a way to continue Philips’ growth in the market by providing new
technologies and value to its customers. “Our PC video cameras have been very
well received by consumers for their unique, eye-catching design and robust
performance,” said Wanless. “We selected SpotLife as a partner because of its
leadership and expertise in the Personal Video Broadcasting market and their
service will be a strong value-add to our product line.”
