RCS Releases iSelector for Internet Radio
White Plains, New York — April 23, 2001
RCS announced the release of a new product and service called
iSelector™, the world’s first fully branded Internet player that harnesses the smarts of Selector® with the power of
the station’s listeners. This innovative software is not just another web-based product to stream music, this is a
true extension of the radio station. iSelector lives right on the listener’s desktop allowing them to listen while they
work. iSelector is different than just streaming your terrestrial station.
iSelector creates a playlist for each listener based on the radio station’s Selector. The listener communicates with
iSelector while they listen by hitting “iSelect” buttons, which let the listener customize and shape the sound of the
station. The longer the listener spends with iSelector, the better the station gets. When the station adds new
music to their Selector, the new songs appear in iSelector - just like the format.
“One of the great things about iSelector”, says RCS President Philippe Generali, “is that listeners aren’t bothered
with hard to use or complicated interfaces. iSelector is easy to use and fun. We have designed a product that
complies with US copyright requirements but still gives the station a competitive advantage on the Internet. Why
lose audience at work or at home to other Internet stations?”
iSelector gives the station ad insertion technology and shows the sponsor’s banner synchronized to the audio
commercial. Each song’s CD cover is displayed while the song plays. Listeners are only a click away from
purchasing any song on iSelector. This is real e-commerce visualized.
Dwight Douglas, Vice President of RCS Product Marketing and former radio consultant comments, “In our
research we found many stations were planning to launch multiple side channels to compete with or complete
what they were offering on their over-the-air station. But if you only have one station to stream, why not reinforce
your brand with streaming that embellishes what you already have? Imagine a car that you could customize to your
tastes inside but still drove like your favorite automobile. iSelector is the future of Internet radio.”
The Selector name is already familiar to the vast majority of radio professionals. Selector was invented in 1979
and today more than 85% of the radio stations in America that play music use Selector to schedule their
programming. Available in 7 languages on 6 continents, Selector has nearly 6,000 radio, television, Internet, and
cable clients around the world.
