ASE Introduces Feature-Packed, Java-Based Set-Top Box
Las Vegas—April 23rd 2001 – ASE Technologies (U.S.A.), Inc., a leader in the design of consumer and commercial digital
set-top boxes for cable, satellite, and wireless delivery systems, today announced the ASE-4500, a Java based set-top box
available third quarter 2001.
This top-of-the-line interactive set-top box with Java™ capability provides the flexibility and reliability needed by leading-edge
service operators. The core of the ASE-4500 is a Java Virtual Machine™ running on a high performance processor. The
ASE-4500 is DVB compliant and includes a wide range of feature sets, including Internet browser, email client, and provisions
for a hard disk drive for Personal Video Recorder features.. It is available as a standard QAM cable or QPSK satellite product
or can be provided with an internal cable modem. It is also available with an Ethernet interface for delivering Video Over IP
services.
The ASE 4500 IPTV STB delivers broadcast-quality digital video and Internet content into living rooms, hotel rooms, and
kiosks. It is designed for deployments on broadband network interfaces, such as Ethernet and DSL. System integrators and
operators can use simple HTML and JavaScript to create a unique look and feel for various services such as movie ordering and
playback, account management, e-commerce, email, and web browsing.
