NYC’s eTV World Expo June 26 and 27 to Examine the Future of TV Ads

eTV World will be the gathering place for the next generation of New Media at the New York City’s Jacob Javits Center on June 26-27.

With Ultimate TV and Web TV co founder, Phil Goldman keynoting and top executives from companies like TiVo, Wink, WorldGate, ACTV, Replay, Disney, Open TV and ABC.com, it will be a place to get in on the ground floor of the industry that is poised to grow nine times faster than the Net (projections by Jupiter Media Metrix).

The purpose of eTV World, according to the Expo’s program director, ” is to present a showcase of the middleware, hardware, developer and business relation options available to companies in or moving into the eTV Space.” eTV World is expected to attract business partners and investors from cable companies, advertising agencies, broadcasters, consumer electronics and Silicon Valley companies.

Contrary to popular thinking, the eTV space is not driven by consumer demand or content. It is driven by box and content distribution, which is largely in the hands of the cable companies. But that is only for the short term, the real industry and its awesome profit-making potential is driven by the back end: what can enhanced TV services do for the viewer, the advertising and for retailing.

Right now, large ad agencies are running scared about ad zapping (viewers fast-forwarding and thereby eliminating commercials) thanks to TiVo, but that is temporary, an eTV organizer said. Even though timeshifting will become a standard eTV feature, a new generation of advertising will be too useful to zap and at eTV advertisers will be shown how that works, promoters said.
