OpenTV Delivers 29 iTV Applications to Northern California Cable Outlet DCT-2000 Set-top Boxes

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - July 23, 2001 - OpenTV, the world’s leading interactive television and media
solutions company, and USA Media Group today announced the deployment of the
most in-depth interactive TV (iTV) content package available to U.S. cable
operators using the Motorola DCT-2000 set-top box. USA Media Group’s iTV
deployment in Half Moon Bay, California features 29 interactive applications
including email, instant messaging, shopping, nine games, news, weather and
sports all running on today’s most widely deployed digital set-top box.
OpenTV’s interactive television content package for Half Moon Bay includes a
wide range of interactive services. USA Media Group will be the first U.S.
MSO offering Static’s Playjam, the world’s most successful iTV entertainment
and games channel. The OpenTV platform features nine games including a fun
children’s game ‘Nutz,’ and ‘Headfunk’, a game of strategy and memory as
well as other games from LudiTV.
In addition to playing games, a viewer will be able to send instant messages
and emails to friends while watching TV. That same viewer can order pizza
from a local pizzeria or CDs from e-tailer The CD Store. Local weather,
stock quotes and stock portfolio information is available at the touch of a
button. Children can learn about Stegosaurus while watching Discovery
Network’s ‘Walking with the Dinosaurs,’ and parents can play along with
‘Hollywood Showdown,’ from the Game Show Network.
OpenTV’s full service of 29 iTV applications on the DCT-2000 in Half Moon
Bay include a variety of interactive games from Static 2358’s Playjam and
LudiTV. Along with ‘Headfunk’ and ‘Nutz,’ the other Static games are ‘Big
Night Out,’ which tests your skills at maneuvering a character on the
screen, and ‘Push My Buttons,’ a pop culture trivia game. Featured games
from LudiTV are ‘Solitaire,’ popular arcade games ‘Bowling’ and ‘Bomber,’
‘Mike the Flea,’ which challenges your memory skills, and a game of hoops
with ‘Dunk.’
In addition to the enhanced TV content with Discovery Networks and the Game
Show Network, cable viewers will also have on-demand access to local movie
listings, a dining guide of regional restaurants, an events calendar of
what’s happening around their community, local weather and the California
Lottery. Instant access to the latest business and sports news is also
available through Reuters, Accuweather, Bloomberg News and Big League TV.
Shopping is just a click away for CDs or pizza from Straw Hat Pizza. A
viewer can chat or send email or instant messages to friends and neighbors
inviting them over for pizza to watch ‘Walk with Dinosaurs’ on the Discovery
channel.
Additional entertainment features include daily horoscopes on Astrology.com,
TV trivia and celebrity bios on Gist Communications’ TV Scoop, Mean Screen’s
Gossip by Veronica and Top Seven, an entertaining collection of top seven
lists.
