CES: Pioneer Shows Digital Network Entertainment Server

At CES Pioneer showed its Digital Entertainment Server and client

s. The system allows central storage of audio, still photo and video files for distribution throughout a home. Pioneer calls its server the media “library” and the receivers the “branches” of the system. Users would have to connect the library to the branches with Ethernet cable. The system can also interface with Ethernet-connected PCs. Later editions of the system are planned to use wireless LAN connections. Pioneer reps claimed the Digital Entertainment Network is capable of sending up to three different video streams and/or up to 22 audio streams simjltaneously to different clients. Reps said the system is slated for release in the Spring or Summer at an undisclosed, but “reasonable” price. One rep said, “This is not meant for only the high-end audiophiles.”
