Reprinted from an On Command press release:
DENVER, June 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — On Command Corporation, the leading provider of in-room interactive entertainment for the hotel industry and its guests, announced today the release of its new TV Email service in July. On Command’s TV Email makes it easy for travelers to easily retrieve and reply to both corporate and personal email systems via their in-room television.
On Command partnered with TeamOn Systems, Inc., ( http://www.teamon.com/ ), a mobile software company based in Issaquah, Washington, to develop the service. The service will be hosted by TeamOn and linked to On Command’s existing in- room Internet service.
Through the system’s TV-formatted interface, guests can securely and directly access corporate email systems, such as MS Exchange(TM) and Lotus Notes(TM), and major consumer email, such as Hotmail and AOL. For enterprise systems, email is accessed without compromising the corporate firewall and requires no additional software or sync-up. It also allows real-time access to corporate contacts and global address lists.
“You can leave the laptop at home,” said Tad Walden, vice president of marketing for On Command. “Hotel guests will be able to check their business or personal email via high-speed connectivity through the in-room television.”
TV Email will be provided as a single service for an hourly fee or as part of On Command’s TV Internet service, which provides high-speed connectivity to the Web from the time of purchase until noon the next day.
“With email now the number one business application, especially for business travelers, this mobile email solution is the perfect complement to On Command’s existing world-class interactive TV services,” said Shirish Nadkarni, chief executive officer of TeamOn Systems. “This system is so easy to provision and use, it’s as if you were sitting at your desk.”
On Command is demonstrating TV Email at HITEC 2002, June 25-27 in Chicago.
