Macworld Expo — New York — July 17, 2002 — RealNetworks®, Inc., (Nasdaq: RNWK), the global leader in Internet media delivery, today announced at Macworld Expo in New York the beta release of RealOne™ Player for Mac OS X. This beta version of RealOne Player enables Mac OS X users to enjoy all of the content and hundreds of thousands of hours of audio and video created each week in RealNetworks’ formats, including the break-through RealVideo® 9. The free beta RealOne Player for Mac OS X is available from www.real.com.

“The beta launch of RealOne Player for Mac OS X represents an important step in bringing RealNetworks’ technological innovations to Apple’s super-modern operating system,” said Phil Barrett, senior vice president, Consumer Products, RealNetworks Inc. “Now, Mac OS X users will be able to experience RealVideo 9 and leverage the latest in RealNetworks’ audio and video compression technology for Internet broadcasts.”

“Mac OS X provides the ultimate platform for creating and viewing video and audio media,” said Ron Okamoto, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “RealOne Player is a high-quality media streaming solution that many of our customers have been looking forward to and we’re very excited that it’s now available for Mac OS X.”

Introduced in April 2002, RealVideo 9 brings broadcast quality video to broadband users while giving dial-up users a subscription quality video experience. Combined with RealAudio Surround, RealVideo 9 delivers a home theatre-like experience, but requires only a small fraction of the storage space used by DVD — actually reducing storage and delivery costs by 30%.

Later this year, the RealOne Player for Mac OS X will be enabled to receive the RealOne SuperPass subscription service, allowing Mac users to subscribe to the best news, sports and entertainment content on the Web, featuring brand-name digital programming from ABCNEWS.com, CBS Big Brother, CNN, E! Networks, FOX Sports.com, MLB Advanced Media, NASCAR.com, NBA, and more.
