MILPITAS, Calif., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Building on a long-term partnership to deliver consumer products that offer a unique digital home entertainment experience, LSI Logic Corporation today announced that its high-performance DVD processor, ZiVA-5, is now shipping in the next-generation DVD players from Samsung Electronics. Samsung’s line-up of innovative and award-winning DVD players are all designed around the LSI Logic ZiVA-5 processor, a DVD solution that provides high levels of integration along with unsurpassed audio/video features and performance.

Samsung has taken advantage of the LSI Logic ZiVA-5 performance to deliver innovative features available for the first time in DVD players such as a Memory Stick interface and Planetweb’s Photo and Audio Manager for JPEG picture browsing and MP3 playback. This function allows consumers to use their DVD players to share still images captured from their digital cameras or listen to MP3 recordings recorded from their PCs with friends and family members in the convenience of the living room. ZiVA-5 provides Samsung DVD players additional benefits such as TrueScan progressive scan technology for the highest quality progressive scan video and other features, such as Phantom Surround Sound and screen fit functions. Powered by the LSI Logic 32-bit Multimedia RISC CPU with DSP extensions and a high-performance 32-bit 2D graphics processor, ZiVA-5 brings features that are typically found in personal computers into the living room.

“Samsung selected the LSI Logic ZiVA-5 because it is the most highly integrated, flexible, full-featured DVD solution available in the market, which gives us the ability to bring consumers today’s high-end DVD features at the right price points,” said Mr. Y.S. Park, vice president of DVD R&D, Digital Video System Division, at Samsung Electronics. “We are continuing to work closely with LSI Logic to jointly develop a range of products — from low-end to high-end — for today’s competitive marketplace.”

The variety of Samsung DVD players that are based on ZiVA-5 demonstrates the device’s versatility and performance. The DVD-P721M is the first DVD player on the market to offer a Memory Stick interface and a photo/audio manager, together with TrueScan progressive scan technology. The ZiVA-5 also powers Samsung’s next generation DVD/VCR combo model (DVD-V2500); and their CES 2002 (Consumer Electronics Show) award-winning portable DVD player (DVD-L100), which includes the industry’s largest portable screen at 10.4 inches.

“LSI Logic is pleased to have partnered with Samsung in the development of their next-generation, feature-rich DVD players,” said Didier LeGall, vice president of Home Media Products, LSI Logic. “LSI Logic and Samsung are continuing the tradition of bringing cutting-edge products to consumers with these new, innovative models.”
