Samsung Announces Generation III of Plasma TV’s with Built-In TV Tuners
Reprinted from a Samsung press release:
Las Vegas, NV — Samsung, a global leader in flat-panel displays, introduces its new plasma TV lineup for
2003 at the Consumer Electronics Show today. Representing the third generation of plasma TVs from
Samsung’s plasma plant in Chonan, South Korea, these widescreen, fan-less plasma displays have built-in
NTSC TV tuners. The lineup, which includes the 42″ SPN4235, the 42″ HPN4239, the 50″ HPN5039, and the
world’s largest plasma, the 63″ HPN6339, is on display at the Samsung booth (#12016 Central Hall LVCC)
during the Consumer Electronics Show, January 9th - 12th, 2003, in Las Vegas.
With the new design, Samsung’s latest plasmas are thinner than ever (just 3″ deep) and promise even
better performance then previous generations, with superior contrast ratio (1200:1) and brightness
(800cd/m2). The inclusion of Samsung’s first-ever proprietary digital processing algorithm, DNIe™ (Digital
Natural Image engine) ensures enhanced contrast, detail, white tone and noise reduction. The full line up
will also employ DVI for a digital connection without the quality losses associated with an analog
connection. Available for these models will be an optional pneumatic pedestal stand that can be adjusted
low or high with one hand and swiveled for optimum viewing from anywhere in the living room.
The leader in Samsung’s plasma lineup will be the SPN4235, a DTV monitor with 852 x 480 pixel resolution
that will be available in April (MSRP $4,999). Samsung will also offer HDTV models for improved detail and
color. These models include the 42″ HPN4239, available in May (MSRP $6,499), the 50″ HPN5039, available
in June (MSRP $8,999), and the 63″ HPN6339, available in July (MSRP $19,999). All offer 1366 x 768
resolution.
