Reprinted from a Niveus Media press release:
VIA Technologies, Inc., a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions, today introduced the “ultimate Home Media Center” by Silicon Valley-based Niveus Media, Inc. at the CONNECTIONS Digital Home Conference and Showcase, Wednesday through Friday at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California. Based on the ultra compact VIA EPIA M10000 mainboard, the ONEbox is a sleek, networkable set top computer that enables users to record and deliver high quality digital media in the living room to share with family and friends through existing TV and stereo equipment, without subscription fees.
Powered by Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and enhanced by the proprietary ONEbox MC software, the Niveus Media ONEbox is built around the VIA EPIA M10000 mainboard featuring the low power VIA C3 processor and the highly acclaimed VIA UniChrome CLE266 chipset with integrated MPEG-2 decoder that provides all the performance, low noise, and connectivity to record and play digital home video, DVDs with AC-3, play CDs, MP3s, view slideshows of digital pictures, and even retrieve, play and share files across the home network.
“VIA provides us with a technology platform that lets us create a compact, energy-efficient device for the living room that records and delivers information, TV shows, music, sports, and virtually any digital content the user could dream of,” said Tim Cutting, founder of Niveus Media, Inc. “The EPIA M-Series from VIA Technologies is the perfect fit, providing all the features needed for even the most sophisticated personal video recorder in a small, quiet running and cost effective package.”
“Users want a quiet digital media device that fits the décor of their living space and provides everything they need to enjoy their digital media without reminding them of an office environment,” commented Richard Brown, Associate Vice President of Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. “Niveus Media has leveraged all the compactness and features of the EPIA M10000 mainboard for a superb home entertainment system that delivers functionality, performance and good looks with no post-purchase strings attached.”
In addition to the VIA EPIA M10000 mainboard with the cool running VIA 1GHz C3 processor, the ONEbox features 256MB of DDR RAM, 80GB HDD, DVD drive and TV tuner card, and can be controlled from the comfort of your armchair with the ONEbox remote control. Acting as a jukebox, the ONEbox offers ample storage, making a great centralized rip-and-store center for entire CD and MP3 collections. The ONEbox MC’s unified user interface and single remote control make it easy for users to record, pause, rewind and play TV and even schedule recordings without requiring a subscription fee. The ONEbox is available for pre-order immediately and will be shipping in late June 2003. Additional information can be found at www.oneboxmc.com.
