Main Concept MPEG-2 Encoder Chosen by Microsoft for Microsoft TV
Reprinted from a MainConcept press release:
MainConcept, a world leader in codec and video editing technology, today announced that Microsoft Corp. has selected MainConcept’s MPEG encoding technology for use in the new Microsoft TV Foundation Edition software platform.
Microsoft TV Foundation helps cable operators get more value out of video on demand (VOD) by enabling better merchandizing of VOD services through new On-Demand Storefronts that make it easy for viewers to buy a variety of video throughout the day. MainConcept’s MPEG encoder will be used at the server level to convert graphic-rich VOD Storefront backgrounds into quality MPEG still images. The Microsoft TV Tools Suite will also include the encoder to facilitate development and testing of applications and content for the platform.
“We selected MainConcept’s MPEG encoding solution because of its ability to dynamically render high-quality video images on the fly,” said Richard Craddock, Product Unit Manager, Microsoft TV Division. “Microsoft TV Foundation was designed to help network operators maximize their VOD potential, and MainConcept’s technology helps us deliver on that vision.”
“We are honored that Microsoft has chosen our MPEG technology,” said MainConcept founder and CEO Markus Moenig. “Microsoft TV Foundation is an innovative new platform that is already making waves in the cable industry. We are very excited to be part of it.”
MainConcept’s MPEG technology will be included in the Microsoft TV Foundation server software and Tools Suite in locked form, and can be activated with the purchase of a license key from MainConcept’s website. The process is fast and easy, with instantaneous unlocking.
