Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a pioneer and leader in the digital set top box category, announces the expansion of its Digital Video Recorder (DVR) offerings with the SIR-S4040R, a DIRECTV DVR with TiVo. The SIR-S4040R will be on display along with a full line of set top box offerings at Samsung’s booth #11027 in Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center during the Consumer Electronics Show from January 8th - 11th.

The SIR-S4040R offers a 40GB hard drive to capture up to 35 hours of DIRECTV programming with TiVo Service at an affordable price for consumers ready to make the entry into the fast growing DVR category.

“Samsung’s new SIR-S4040R expands our line as the perfect choice for a first DVR,” said Chris Cudina, National Sales and Marketing Manager, Digital Set Top Box Group, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. “Whether you are a sports fanatic or someone who is just loyal to their favorite programs or actors, the cost is affordable and the storage capacity is powerful enough to enjoy all you’re A-list programming. It’s the perfect compliment to our 100-hour unit, first introduced in Fall 2003.”

Samsung’s SIR-S4040R DIRECTV DVR puts the viewer in command by simultaneously recording programming onto the hard drive as you watch. While recording is taking place, any show - even a live game - can be paused for an unexpected break for up to 30 minutes without missing any of the action. The rewind, instant replay and slow motion playback features put sports fans in the control room and the Dual TV tuners allow users to record two shows at the same time or watch one show while recording another.

The SIR-S4040R DIRECTV DVR with TiVo provides consumers with complete freedom to personalize how they watch television. Features like Season Pass allow viewers to record an entire season of their favorite show with a few simple clicks of the remote. And the WishList feature lets viewers tell TiVo to search for programs that feature their favorite actor, director, sports team or interest.

The SIR-S4040R DIRECTV DVR features optical Dolby Digital output and two USB expansion ports for future home entertainment services. The DIRECTV with TiVo service monthly subscription fee is $4.99 and will be free to customers subscribing to the TOTAL CHOICE PREMIER package.

The SIR-S4040R will be available in February, 2004.

This new unit joins the SIR-S4120R DIRECTV DVR which boasts 120GBs, 50% more storage capacity than most DVRs currently available. This large hard drive is able to store up to 100 hours of DIRECTV programming with TiVo. The SIR-S4120R is currently available for an MSRP of $399.
