MovieBeam Adds Trailers, Exclusive Programming to Service

Reprinted from a MovieBeam press release:

As a sign of continued commitment to its customers, MovieBeam, an on-demand movie rental service that delivers quality entertainment directly to homes, will unveil its most significant upgrades to the service yet. These enhancements, inspired largely by customer feedback, will further improve the movie viewing experience of MovieBeam customers, who have already stopped paying video store late fees and started renting movies from the comfort of their own home.

Beginning this month, MovieBeam customers in the Salt Lake City area will find new programming choices on the service:

  • Theatrical Trailers: This menu gives customers access to free full-length trailers for some of the most exciting blockbusters currently in theaters - and those coming soon to theaters.
  • MovieBeam Extras: This feature offers free programming exclusively for MovieBeam customers. Extras change all the time and may include short films, behind-the-scenes footage, making-of featurettes, celebrity interviews and more - all free for the watching.
  • Coming Soon: This section lists movies premiering on MovieBeam in the coming weeks. Each movie page will tell consumers when the movie arrives and will feature the movie’s full-length theatrical trailer.
  • MovieBeam Picks: These are collections of movies that have something special in common and will be highlighted in the “Now Showing” menu. For example, the Fright Night selection will spotlight scary movies just in time for Halloween.

“These new enhancements reinforce the convenience and entertainment value that our customers have come to expect with MovieBeam,” said Linda Walters, buyer at RC Willey in Salt Lake City. “We are committed to providing the latest home entertainment technology to our customers and this includes MovieBeam.”

“These enhancements are just some of the ways we are evolving the MovieBeam service to create an even better home entertainment experience,” said Tres Izzard, senior vice president and general manager, Buena Vista Datacasting. “Our mission, to make MovieBeam the most convenient and entertaining movie rental option for Salt Lake City area residents, remains the same as when we launched a year ago. We are thrilled that existing users have rewarded us with high marks for satisfaction and that more new users are signing up every day.”

In September 2003, Salt Lake City area residents were the first in the nation to have the MovieBeam service, which provides a convenient solution to the hassles of traditional video rental stores. MovieBeam customers can conveniently rent from an ever-changing lineup of 100 movies directly from their homes, 24 hours a day, without the possibility of incurring rental late fees. The service gives consumers instant access in their homes to recent DVD and video releases, including New Releases and other Popular Favorites, with no complicated installation.
