Mediabolic Announces Network Media Player Platform

Mediabolic, Inc., an industry leader in providing software infrastructure and services for connected entertainment devices, today announced and demonstrated the full capabilities of the Mediabolic Network Media Player (NMP) technology platform. The Mediabolic NMP is a digital home product that integrates with the television and wirelessly connects to one or more PCs in the home and the Internet.
The Mediabolic NMP is able to present PC and Internet applications optimized for a lean-back, remote-controlled TV viewing experience. These applications include playback of personal entertainment content, including music, photos and videos, plus access to premium content services such as full-length movies on-demand. The Mediabolic NMP also enables dozens of new, personalized applications optimized for the TV, like local weather, on-demand customized news, and more. This experience is supported by Mediabolic’s back-end services featuring a catalog of on-demand applications based on open standards.
The remote application technologies that are part of the Mediabolic NMP bring remote PC-based applications to the television, helping to accelerate the growth of the television as an application platform, much as the PDA and cell phone have become. These applications are growing in numbers every day, because they are easy to write, and use existing programming tools and techniques, such as HTML, JavaScript, Flash and ActiveX.

The Mediabolic Network Media Player technology brings together the TV and home network to create a unified lean-back, 10-foot user experience. There is no need to switch TV inputs with the Mediabolic NMP, as it tightly integrates the TV viewing experience with a user interface that is an overlay to the TV video source. The Mediabolic NMP is a standards-based open platform that complies with DLNA and UPnP standards, emerging DRM technologies, Intel NMPR specifications, and all major media formats.
